Membrane Filtration SystemThe Membrane Filtration System from Busse GmbH is approved in Germany and has the backing of the German Environmental Protection Agency. It is pending approval in Ireland. The house sewage treatment plant is of a modular design and consists of two or three double-walled tanks (polyethylene – sheet metal, galvanized), the minimum version being a coarse material / sewage storage tank (pre-clarification) and a membrane bio-reactor (activated sludge), called MBR. The tanks ensure a high standard of safety, are suitable for modular construction of any plant size and facilitate inspection and maintenance of the plant by the owner itself.

For sewage inlet, a connecting pipe (DN 100) has been installed on the pre-clarification tank, to which the domestic discharge pipe (down pipe) is connected. This connecting pipe also ensures the overhead venting of the plant.
The fluid is pumped through the domestic treatment plant from the pre-clarification tank to the activated sludge by a mammoth pump. To separate the filtrate (purified water) from the activated sludge, micro-filtration membranes are used which are immersed in the activated sludge tank.

The plate membranes consist of a base plate with welded-on membranes on both sides. The nominal pore width is 0.4 µm. A non-woven fabric support ensuring unobstructed filtrate flow is installed between the base plate through which the drainage channels are guided, and the membrane. The filtrate is drained via an opening at the upper edge of the membrane plate. The trans-membrane pressure differential required is generated by submerging the membranes.
The membranes are located in a module which is equipped with inflow openings in the bottom zone, and an aeration system. The purified waste water flows through the membranes by gravity flow from the plant to a seepage system or an elevating system available as an option. The aeration systems in the pre-clarification tank and the activated sludge tank as well as the mammoth pump are supplied by two silently working diaphragm-type compressors.
